Practice Groups

LCAC offers a small coach/swimmer ratio in order to assure each swimmer receives proper instruction and stroke correction to allow them to become the best they can be!  Four practice groups exist to challenge each swimmer as they perfect their skills.

Flying Fish Practices three times per week for 30 minutes.

A streamlined torpedo shape helps flying fish generate enough underwater speed to break the water’s surface, and large, wing-like pectoral fins help get them airborne. The process of taking flight, or gliding, begins by gaining great velocity underwater. Angling upward, the flying fish breaks the surface and begins to taxi by rapidly beating its tail while it is still beneath the surface.

Flying Fish, our beginning pre-competitive group works on proper breath control, kicking and streamlining in order to perfect their underwater glides. Swimmers have the option of competing in LCAT Sizzlers.

Sharks  Practices three times per week for 30 minutes.

Sharks are streamlined, torpedo-shaped swimmers with powerful tails that can propel them through the water at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour.

Our intermediate group, Sharks continue thier work on proper breath control and streamlining as they perfect their freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate in LCAT Sizzlers.

Stingrays  Practices three times per week for 45 minutes.

To swim, stingrays move their whole bodies in a wavy motion that propels them through the water. Other species flap their pectoral fins like bird wings and “fly” through the water.

Stingrays, our advanced group, work on perfecting their breaststroke and butterfly utilizing proper undulation techniques. Swimmers are expected to compete in LCAT Sizzlers.

Marlins Practices three times per week for 45 minutes.

The fastest fish in the ocean, sailfish can reach speeds of 68 miles per hour. These powerful, streamlined beasts fight vigorously, making them a favorite among trophy fishers.

Marlins, our final pre-competitive group, works on building speed and endurance. Swimmers are expected to participate in LCAT Sizzlers and are encouraged to participate in the Del Norte series of swim meets.
